Q. Do the angels and jinn die? Where are they buried? Is the funeral prayer offered for them? How long do each of them live?

Praise be to Allah.
Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish.
And the Face of your Lord full of Majesty and Honour will remain forever.” [55:26-27]

Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Here Allah tells us that all the inhabitants of the earth will perish and die, as will all the inhabitants of heaven, except for whomsoever Allah wills, and nothing will be left except His Noble Face, for the Lord does not die, rather He is the Ever-Living who will never die. [Tafsir al-Quran il-‘Azeem]

Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say, “Allahumma inni a’oodhu bi ‘izzatika la ilaha illa anta an tadillani, anta al-hayyu alladhi la yamoot wa’l-jinn wa’l-ins yamootoon (O Allah, I seek refuge in Your glory, there is no god but You, against being led astray, for You are the Ever-Living Who does not die, but the jinn and mankind will die).”

With regard to your questions about where they are buried, whether the funeral prayer is offered for them and how long they live, these are matters which are concealed from us. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been given only a little.” [17:85]

The Muslim should strive to learn more about that which has an impact on his own behaviour, such as knowledge of Allah, His names and attributes, what he is obliged to believe in and knowledge of the rulings of sharee’ah (Islamic law). He should avoid delving deeply into matters which he is not required to know and in which there is no benefit. I ask Allah to grant us beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds.

And Allah knows best.

Is Iblees the father of all the jinn?

Q. Is Iblees the father of all Jinn, evil and righteous ones, or a father for only the evil Jinn?

Praise be to Allaah.
The devils (shayaateen) are the kuffaar of the jinn. Allaah, may He be exalted, says of the accursed Iblees (interpretation of the meaning):

“except Iblees (Satan). He was one of the jinn; he disobeyed the Command of his Lord”

[al-Kahf 18:50].

Many scholars are of the view that Iblees is the father of all of the jinn, both the believing and disbelieving ones among them. He is their origin and they are his offspring. This view was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas, Mujaahid, Qataadah, al-Hasan al-Basri and others.

See: Tafseer al-Tabari (1/507) and al-Durr al-Manthoor (5/402).

There is a hadeeth concerning that which is attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). It was narrated by al-Tabaraani in al-Mu’jam al-Awsat (6/197) from Mu’aawiyah ibn al-Hakam al-Sulami. But it is very weak (da’eef jiddan), as it was narrated only by Talhah ibn Zayd al-Qurashi of whom ‘Ali ibn al-Madeeni said: He used to fabricate hadeeth. See: Tahdheeb al-Tahdheeb(5/16).

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah called Iblees the father of the jinn in more than one place (see Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 4/346, 235), as did his student Ibn al-Qayyim, then al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar in Fath al-Baari(6/369).

Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (9/370-371): The shaytaan is the father of the jinn according to a number of scholars. He is the one who disobeyed his Lord and was too proud to prostrate to Adam, so Allaah expelled him and cast him away. End quote.

It says in Fataawa Noor ‘ala al-Darb by Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (al-Jinn wa’l-Shayaateen, question no. 2) :

Undoubtedly Iblees is the father of the jinn, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning) :

“And the jinn He created from a smokeless flame of fire”

[al-Rahmaan 55:15]

And He describes Iblees when he addressed the Lord of Glory (may He be glorified and exalted) (interpretation of the meaning) :

“ ‘I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay’”

[al-A’raaf 7:12]

And Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Will you then take him (Iblees) and his offspring as protectors and helpers rather than Me while they are enemies to you?”

[al-Kahf 18:50]

This evidence clearly indicates that Iblees has offspring and that the jinn are his offspring, but how did that come about? This is something of which we have no knowledge and it is something concerning which it does not matter if we are ignorant, and knowing it does not bring any benefit.

And Allah knows best. End quote.

Shaytaan was the resident of heaven but because of his arrogance, he was expelled from the heaven. The enmity of Shaytaan (devil) towards Adam and his descendants is ancient and wants no good for them. He knows what his end is like and wishes the same for the son of Adam (AS) as well.

Our mother and father (Eve and Adam AS) dwelled in paradise by Allah’s permission but Shaytaan came to them made the disobedience to Allah attractive to them. He whispered to them and they, in their folly, obliged. Thus Adam AS disobeyed his Lord and was expelled from the paradise. Allah warns us against obeying the Shaytaan.

He says

“O Children of Adam! Let not Shaytaan (Satan) deceive you, as he got your parents [Adam and Hawwa’ (Eve)] out of Paradise”
[al-A’raaf 7:27]

The enmity of Shaytaan towards mankind is clear and obvious. He has been given recompense until the day of judgment but on the day of truth and justice, he will confess to his crimes. He will confess that there is no God but Allah. Those among the mankind who had been deceived will regret and repent but their repentance will be of no avail. And Shaytaan will say

“And Shaytaan (Satan) will say when the matter has been decided: ‘Verily, Allaah promised you a promise of truth. And I too promised you, but I betrayed you. I had no authority over you except that I called you, and you responded to me.

So blame me not, but blame yourselves. I cannot help you, nor can you help me. I deny your former act in associating me (Satan) as a partner with Allaah (by obeying me in the life of the world). Verily, there is a painful torment for the Zaalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers)’”

[Ibraaheem 14:22]

Shaytaan has promised 4 things to the son of Adam. These are:

1. I will lead them astray, servants of Shaitan!

He will make people deviate from the path of Allah. He will make them disbelieve in the oneness of Allah. He will deceive them into worshipping other gods, but Allah.

2. I will give them their forth passions and desires.

Shaytaan will make people follow their desires and passions, blindly and without thinking. People will give their whole energy and time to their desires. They won’t think twice before fulfilling them, even if it meant breaking the laws and limits set by Allah aza-wa-jal. It encompasses two categories:

A. Persons carnal desires: One’s desire for flesh i.e. sex. Our society today is sex-driven society. There is the huge promotion of “safe” but illegal sexual intercourse. People prefer living in relations but not getting married. People don’t want to take the responsibility of the family. One night stand is all that one aims for whereas Sex in Islam is supposed to be a spiritual thing.

B. Materials of this world: Shaytaan will delude the mankind into believing in the aspirations of this world. He will make this Duniya for the purpose of this life. Thus making them forget the hereafter.

3. I will command them and they will slit the ear of the cattle, disfigure the creation of Allah, playing with Allah’s creation

Don’t we see people who have disfigured or mutilated themselves because that is what they consider beautiful? Don’t we see a rise in plastic surgeries because people are not content with themselves?

Don’t we see how humans transform themselves to look live horrible devilish creatures or animals? Don’t we see people adorned with tattoos and piercing that is not normal? Allah-hu -Akbar. This is exactly what Shaytaan has promised!

4. I will command them and they will change the creation of Allah, playing with the creation of Allah.

Indeed the mankind is believing in the lies of Shaytaan. They are playing with the creation of Allah. The GM (Genetically Modified) foods. Cloning of animals and plants. Changing the natural course of things, all get included in this.

May Allah protect us all.
