Q. Does listening to Soorat al-Kahf on Friday bring the same reward as that of the one who reads it?
Praise be to Allah.
Soorat al-Kahf :
The reward that results from reading Soorat al-Kahf on Friday is only mentioned for the one who reads the soorah on that day. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on Friday, Allah will bestow upon him light between those two Fridays.” Narrated by al-Bayhaqi; classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani (may Allah have mercy on him) in Saheeh al-Jaami‘.
It is well-known that the one who listens to a soorah is not regarded as having read it. Based on that, if a person wants the reward that is mentioned in the hadith, then he has to read Soorat al-Kahf, and it is not enough just to listen to it.
But if a person cannot read Qur’an well, so he listens to it being recited by someone else, seeking the reward that has been mentioned for that, then there is the hope that he will have the same reward as the one who reads it, because of his good intention and doing what he is able to do.

Soorat al-Kahf and its importance :
Alhamdulillah, let’s reflect on one story of surah kahf which is the story of ashabul kahf.
This story is one the of the wonders of the world.
There were a time when a king came into power and started to king anyone who does not worship idols..
Among them were seven men who were pious and because of that fled they go away to take rescue from a cave.
As they were inside, they were praying unto Allah to save and protect them.
Just then Allah s.w.t made them fall into a deep sleep. As they were sleeping they did not know what was happening.
They had their dog with them.
They oneday woke up and started asking themselves,
How many days have we slept?
One of them said maybe half a day. So they were confused.
They sent one of them to buy food for them and not to tell anyone of their whereabouts.
Just then he went out and saw a different people and different culture and life.
They people were amazed to see their ancient people about 300 years alive.
They started following him and he ran and entered the cave. They people were amazed to see the seven people inside the cave.
This became a mystery and people start to talk of them.
This surah was from Medina because some group of Jews came and ask the prophet s.a.w to tell them of these story and Allah s.w.t revealed it to show them this Qur’an is from him alone.
