CAN A MUSLIM WOMAN LOOK FOR HER LIFE PARTNER HERSELF?
There is a difference between a Muslim woman looking for a husband and her mixing with and talking to men for that purpose, and meeting by accident a man who she thinks is a potential husband. The former is contrary to modesty, for a woman is required to be of modest character and shy, which is an adornment and beauty for women; the virgin is the epitome of modesty as it says in the hadeeth of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to be more shy than the virgin in her seclusion, and if he disliked something it would be known from his face.”
WHAT IS TAHLEEL MARRIAGE ? IS IT VALID OR HALAL?
It is believed that the marriage that will make her permissible for her first husband must be a valid marriage. Temporary marriage (Mut’ah marriage) or marriage for the purpose of making her permissible for first husband (Tahleel marriage) are harams and invalid. i.e. one cannot marry a woman temporarily with an intention to divorce her and make her permissible for her first husband is haram and invalid. Such marriages don’t make a woman permissible for her first husband. Majority of scholars are of same belief and say so.
MARRIAGE : WHY YOU SHOULD GET MARRIED
Allah (SWT) mentioned in surah AR-RUM that from amongst the signs of Allah (SWT) i.e. which indicates the greatness, grandeur, and majesty of Allah, signs which are indicative of the oneness of Allah (SWT). Amongst those signs is that he has created from you “mates” so that you may find rest in her and he has made between you love and mercy indeed this (marriage) is a sign for those who think.
No One is Perfect
ALLAH (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) says that spouses are like clothes for each other. They hide the defects in the body, and beautify the body. Each person wears clothes that are just the right size for their body. So also ALLAH gave you the spouse just right for you, somebody who complements your strengths and compensates for your weaknesses. Therefore, never compare your partner with others. Somebody else’s clothes may look great on them but terrible on you.
